Referendum for the European constitution
Voting in the referendum for or against the European constitution is not an easy exercise. Even many of those who consider themselves pro-European justify their positions as voting for or against the treaty for the European constitution as a means of saving their vision of Europe. If one votes against the treaty, then will there be another chance for an improved version? Who knows. I personally feel like the treaty doesn't fulfill the vision I have of Europe but, on the other hand, without a constitution the EU will continue to distance itself from the vision I had hoped for.Looking forward to the debate in the IUP2 class on Monday May 2 in the CRL Sciences Physiques.

For sure, this text is not the right way to build the social Europe, but it may also not be a good way to create the political Europe that we may wait for...
In the defense point of view, we should notice that all the positions tooked by the European Union would need to be "compatible" with the NATO (in french : OTAN). In facts, this results as we'll not able to oppose to the usa military decisions... ( see some articles of "le monde diplomatique")
In the economical point of view, this text doesn't increase the power of the european union in the world, it just open a new big market for international trade where no restrictions can be invoked by states... It prepare Europe for the General Agreement on Trade in Services which is adopted in the World Trade Organisation. (see )
If we refuse this text, the third part may be removed (see this article from the figaro) and renegotiation will be done, because EU can't work without a new treaty...
Do we really know what what visions other Europeans have of Europe? I've heard that many Europeans don't want France's porported model of a social Europe. Most French don't want Raffarin's model either. Most of the sources have been establishment type newspapers. Certainly the Economist for instance can't be expected to defend a social model of Europe since it and it's readers are clearly pro-free market.
